What sort of people are migrant workers ?

A role play exercise. Whoever plays the migrant should have a crib sheet in advance, with bare details that they can fill out for themselves. Each "migrant" can then be interviewed by groups in the class.

What sort of problems will they have coming to the UK ?
- I don’t speak much English.
- I need somewhere to live.
- How do I open a bank account ?
- Where do I find a doctor or dentist ?
- How do I get a job ?
- How do I top up my mobile ?
- I need a licence to drive a tractor.
How to Make Them Welcome
Prepare a Welcome pack with ‘how to’ instructions include simple English expressions for getting about, &c.
Advisory service in local library, County Hall, &c
Provide classes in English as a foreign language.
Get an actual migrant worker to speak to the class
Games to include guessing the language from a few words, compiling simple English dialogues.
