Croatia & Turkey

Croatia

On 1 July 2013 Croatia became the 28th state to accede to the European Union. EU relations with Croatia over several years are summarised in a EurActive report.

The authentic European Commission document lists progress on each chapter of the acquis that had been made in 2007 (this is a substantial PDF document), illustrating the demands that must one by one be met by a country wanting to join the EU.

European Commission policy on Croatia was renewed in a Decision taken in February 2008. The Official Journal (scroll down a couple of screens to the Annexe) gives clearly focused views
(1) on the extent to which the Copenhagen criteria have so far been met, and
(2) on the current state of acquis negotiations chapter by chapter.

Turkey

A small part of Turkey is already in geographical Europe (to the north of the Sea of Marmara). But the prospect of accession to the EU has been controversial, with the present EU states disagreeing on the issue.

The authentic European Commission document lists progress on each chapter of the acquis (this is a substantial PDF document).
