Population - 1.8 million  (census 2011)

Kosovo declared unilateral independence from Serbia in February 2008. Its independence is recognised by some EU countries and by the US.  Serbia has refused to recognise the independence of its former region.

On 10 October 2012 the European Commission issued its feasibility study for a Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the EU and Kosovo. Shortly afterwards the ongoing high-level dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia was initiated.
