Culture

The culture of Ukraine has been influenced by its eastern and western neighbours, and also heavily influenced by Orthodox Christianity, the dominant religion in the country.  These are influences reflected in its architecture, music and art.

Even older is the tradition of painted Easter eggs, with a history going back over thousands of years.

Famous people

* Many international classicaL musicians came from ethnic minorities in Ukraine. This category includes such composers as Rheinhold Glière and Sergei Prokofiev, performers Vladimir Horowitz, David Oistrakh, Sviatoslav Richter and Isaac Stern.
* Ruslana (Руслана) was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2004

Sport
Andriy Shevchenko (
Андрій Шевченко) is a Ukrainian footballer who plays for Dynamo Kyiv.
Liliya Podkopayeva (
Лілія Подкопаєва) was the 1996 Olympic all-around champion gymnast.  She is widely regarded as one of the best gymnasts in history, with 45 gold, 21 silver and 14 bronze medals.

Vitali and Volodimir Klitschko (Віталій & Володимир Кличко) are two famous boxing brothers, both world heavyweight champions.

Cuisine 
The traditional Ukrainian diet includes chicken, pork, beef, fish and mushrooms. Ukrainians also tend to eat a lot of potatoes, grains, fresh and pickled vegetables. A well-known Ukrainian speciality is Chicken Kiev (котлета по-киевски) - boneless chicken breast rolled around cold garlic butter with herbs, then breaded and either fried or baked.
