Geography

Area of 323,802 sq km.

Bordering countries are Sweden (east, the longest border in Europe at 1,619 km), Finland (north-east), Russia in the far north-east

Coastline
– 25,148 km in total (includes mainland 2,650 km, as well as long fjords, bays and small islands 22,498 km)

Terrain: glaciated; mostly high plateaus and rugged mountains broken by fertile valleys; small, scattered plains; coastline deeply indented by fjords; arctic tundra in north. some 50,000 islands off its much-indented coastline; one of the most rugged and longest coastlines in the world.  Only 2.5% of the land is classified as arable.

Mountains: About two-thirds of the country is mountains; highest point: Galdhopiggen 2,469 m
Jan Mayen Island in the Norwegian Sea has an active volcano.
