Geography

Area of 2586 sq km. One of the smallest countries in Europe - 82 km long, 57 km wide

Bordering countries are Germany, France and Belgium. Landlocked.

Largest cities – City of Luxembourg (capital, population 76,700), Pétange, Differdange, Esch.

Main rivers - the River Moselle runs along the south-eastern border, with the Sûre (Sauer) flowing from France, across Luxembourg, then forming the eastern border.

Terrain: northern part hills and low mountains, part of the Ardennes – sparsely populated;
southern part – large flat plain; craggy terrain and forests to the east.  The main cities and economic activity are in the south.
