Bordering countries are Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine and Hungary.
Lakes but no sea coastline.

Largest cities – Bratislava (capital, population 452,000), Žilina, Košice.

Main rivers are the Dunaj (Danube), the Váh and the Hron.

Terrain: rugged mountains in the central and northern part with steep valleys, caves and lakes;  lowlands in the south.
