Current Government: Head of state: President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic (since February 2015), elected by popular vote for a 5-year term.
Head of government: Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic (since October 2016)

Constitution: 

Presidential and parliamentary democracy. Constitution adopted in December 1990; revised 1997-2001, and most recently in 2010.
Unicameral Assembly – Sabor.   151 seats, members elected from party lists by popular vote to serve 4-year terms.  Elections last held September 2016 (next to be held December 2020).
Started negotiations for accession to the EU in October 2005.  On completion of EU accession negotiations in June 2010 Croatian law had been fully harmonised with the the European Community acquis.

Membership of United Nations, the Council of Europe, the World Trade Organisation. Joined NATO in April 2009.
