Population - 68.375 million (metropolitan France, estimate at July 2013), including more than 5 million of Arab and African descent, reflecting the make up of the former French empire and recent migration.  A further 2.69 million live in the French overseas departments and territories.

Religion – France is a secular country; freedom of religion is a constitutional right but the government does not keep statistics on religious adherence (or on ethnic origins).
