"Kremlin" in general means a fortified administrative centre. The Kremlin in Moscow is a fort surrounded by a 2.25 kilometre red wall, and contains former palaces and several ornate churches. This is the Успенский Собор (Cathedral of the Assumption). Built in 1479 as a private chapel for the royal family, it became a museum in Soviet times.
