The power of boycott

In October 2020 some Muslim majority countries called for a boycott of goods imported from France following remarks by French president Emmanual Macron seen by some as critical of Islam.

The context for the president's remarks was terrorist attacks in France carried out by Islamist extremists.  One attack involved the beheading of a teacher in Paris for showing in class caricatures of the prophet Mohammad. The other involved the killing of three French citizens in a church in Nice.

The action of the teacher was defended in France as the right to freedom of speech.

Shops in Kuwait pulled 80 percent of French produce from their shelves.

Do you think a boycott is an effective way of opposing practices or policies that you disapprove of?
